BIKES NOT BOMBS

Locals may know this Jamaica Plain organization for the recycled, refurbished bikes for sale at their Bartlett Square shop. But BIKES NOT BOMBS' activist work is further-reaching than its Amory Street headquarters: the group's various projects advocate for international community development, sustainability, and wide-reaching social change, using the bicycle as a self-empowering medium for fighting injustice, violence, and over-consumption. (Inhale.) They receive over 6000 bikes yearly, sending over 4000 to community-building initiatives in Ghana, Tanzania, Guatemala, and Nevis Island. The rest are used in JP for youth programs, where they train teenagers to be bike mechanics and community organizers. Basically, they're saving the world with bikes.
