Best Piece Of Public Art

Shepard Fairey's graffiti

Best-public-art-2009-main

Well, it’s no surprise to us that this little darling of the art world nabbed the most votes for Best Piece of Public Art. With a smash-success exhibit at the ICA, outstanding warrants that landed him in Boston courts, and that Obama poster, SHEPARD FAIREY is hot, hot, hot. But of course you know that. So after you’ve seen his show at the museum, we suggest you hit the streets to catch the works this guy has bequeathed to us — the Toxic poster at the Wall in Central Square, the peace sign on the corner of a private home on Rutland Street, the rose-covered woman on the side wall of the Tannery. And may we also plug the Mujer Fatal collage, tattooed to the side of our very own Phoenix office building at 126 Brookline Avenue? Fairey has tagged Boston with more than 20 pieces of signature work. To help plan a route, check out a map provided by the ICA Web site. A free guide to illegal art? Yes, please.
