This category didn’t have a lot of candidates to choose from, since Boston is the little old lady of Eastern cities. We go to bed early here, or, at least, our liquor licenses do. The SOUTH STREET DINER is an anomaly. It’s open all night and serves top-notch food whether it’s three in the afternoon or three in the morning. This is 1950s diner fare, true Americana, which you may or may not appreciate as you drunkenly shovel down fork-fuls, post–Faneuil Hall bender.
