MYERS + CHANG

Ever find yourself thinking, if only I could eat this tamarind-glazed cod to a playlist of artists that resemble, but aren't necessarily, the Brian Jonestown Massacre? Yeah, us too. Luckily, there's a self-awarely lit diner/bistro/bar on Washington Street, just south of East Berkeley, called MYERS + CHANG that can meet your tuned-in dining needs. The joint effort of chef/owner Joanne Chang and executive chef Matthew Barros, Myers + Chang offers a widely tapped blend of Southeast Asian and Taiwanese specialties, resulting in a menu peppered with far-out dishes ("tiger's tears [a/k/a bang bang & olufsen beef]" being the far outest, of course). Be sure to try the sinus-clearing, lemongrass-heavy mussels, or the chef's ginger-sesame-infused take on chicken and waffles. The extensive drink menu (sake, scorpion bowls, homemade sodas, etc.) makes Myers + Chang just as great of a watering hole as it is a restaurant.
