Best Replacements For Matt Damon And Ben Affleck
Brett Portanova and Eric Poydar
Move over Matt and Ben, there’s a couple of new kids on the block (and no, we don’t mean Donnie and Joey). We’re referring, of course, to BRETT PORTANOVA AND ERIC POYDAR, Boston’s newest filmmaking dream team. The talented and handsome (sorry ladies, they’re taken!) twosome first met as production assistants on the set of David Mamet’s State and Main. Shortly after that stint they began writing together, eventually scoring major props for their script 4Vienna, a finalist (top 30 of 3000) at the Los Angeles–based Scriptapalooza screenwriting contest.
In 2005, Portanova and Poydar formed Bootleg Productions LLC and started working on their second venture: Larry (the actor), a “mofaux documentary,” which the duo wrote and produced, and Poydar directed. (Check out the trailer online.) The film, which is an official selection in the 2008 Boston Independent Film Festival, focuses on an acting veteran named Larry (played by the recently deceased Lionel Mark Smith) who reminisces about life as a black actor. Gus Van Sant hasn’t called yet, but don’t be surprised if you someday see these two cats doing the red-carpet penguin march.
