In the ’80s, Guy Picciotto and Ian MacKaye were sad because their hardcore bands always broke up within three years. But during their fleeting lifespans, Picciotto’s Rites of Spring and MacKaye’s Embrace pioneered emo. Hopefully by now, Picciotto has quit beating himself up over whoever abandoned him and inspired this 1985 reproach.
