Top 100 Emo Songs of All Time
47. Brand New | "Mixtape"
"Mixtape" by Brand New from the album Your Favorite Weapon (2001)
Brand New’s Your Favorite Weapon was the definitive record of Long Island’s Great Third Wave of Emo Culture, circa 2001-2005. The anthemic track “Mixtape” sits among the album’s huger moments. It starts slow, with frontman Jesse Lacey calling friends out on their shit and nodding to the band’s influences (“I’m sick of your tattoos/And the way you always criticize the Smiths”). The tempo change at 0:57 is one of the greatest emo moments of all time.
