11. Concrete Blonde | "Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)"
"Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)" by Concrete Blonde from the album Bloodletting (1990)
Bloodletting is at its core a goth tribute, something the band will beat you over the head with if you didn’t get it from the album cover featuring a single white rose, amidst a cluster of red roses, with droplets of blood dotting it. “Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)” has all the stereotypical hallmarks: a cracked mirror, vampires, New Orleans, embracing the nighttime and the walking dead. The song has a creepy vibe led by the thumbing bass, guitar phaser set to spooky and come-hither-to-get-bit vocals by Johnette Napolitano. Most music fans will remember Concrete Blonde for the success of “Joey,” also on Bloodletting, but digging deeper it’s the celebration of goth culture that resonates most vividly.
