"The Drowners" by Suede from the album Suede (1992)
Where music of 1992 was neutered and withdrawn, Suede were boldly sexual and flagrantly flash. "The Drowners" was almost too much too fast, as Brett Anderson's outsize androgynous longing is paired with a glitter beat and a mindwarping web of guitar wizardry. As a foppish call to arms, it was perhaps Britpop's most decisive declaration of decadent desire.
