No video-game hero has ever been angrier than Kratos. He is a being of pure rage, and his fury manifests in everything he does. Kratos wrenches his enemies’ heads off their necks. He snaps bones and shatters teeth. He kicks down doors like they’ve just said something mean about his mother. Gore in games can be unnecessary, even laughable, but the violence in God of War is presented with such conviction that it becomes awesome, in the classical sense of the word.
