No other game looks like Okami. Like a watercolor painting brought to life, it’s all pastels and black ink outlines. No other game plays like it, either. Players can pause the action at any time to use the “celestial brush,” which brings the aesthetics into the gameplay. With a swipe of the brush, players bring dead trees back to life, repair ravaged structures, and restore vitality to a world in decay. In its broad strokes, Okami resembles any number of quality action-RPGs, but its focus on regeneration and not destruction is unique. It belongs in a museum.
