FFVII brought Japanese RPGs to the forefront of the gaming world, along with everything that entails: emo haircuts, impractical weapons, sexy bishonen, and more yaoi fanfiction than you can shake a buster sword at. FFVII’s characters remain favorites to this day, so it should come as no surprise that you still can’t go to an anime con without seeing at least a dozen people dressed as Cloud, Aeris, or Sephiroth. The game inspired multiple spin-offs like Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core, and Advent Children, but there’s still not a remake on the PS3. Fans, keep those fingers crossed. _Haldan Smith
