Generationals

Louisiana_generationals

CITY: New Orleans
SONGS THAT GOT US: “Angry Charlie,” “Bobby Beale”
ON THE TUBES: MySpaceWeb site
RECORD LABEL: Park the Van

WHY THEM? This is cold, hard funk from some buttoned-up, angular-faced Europeans with a couple of ’80s drum machines, some juicy synths, and “Freakazoid” robots manning the boards. So why does every other thing they do sound lifted from a vault of reverb-slathered AM pop? The Generationals aren’t your typical N’awlins export, coming off like Gary Numan’s Tubeway Army covering the Beach Boys — and then remixed by Propellerheads.

BONUS BIT! Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer may be otherwise known as members of now-defunct Baton Rouge favorites the Eames Era.
