Ketman

All-time Best Band: Pixies
All-Time Best Solo Artist: Jonathan Richman
Best New Band: Ketman

No offense, everyone who lives here that has ever been in a band, but the PIXIES were, are, and will always be better than you. This, being fact, remains out of your control, but take heart: in many ways, it’s out of their hands, too, so wild and sprawling is their wake (especially the one from that second lap). A blurb’s word count could be easily eaten by a list of awesome Pixies songs, but let’s instead credit them for their real accomplishment: showing the world that people from Massachusetts aren’t always miserable whiny bitches. See, world? Some of us happen to be in the fucking Pixies. | For whatever reason (New York proximity complex?), idiosyncrasy rules in Boston (remember, the Pixies). Thus, there’s no better ambassador for quirk-addled, over-charming, ultimately effective and unforgettable Bostonian pop music than JONATHAN RICHMAN. Yes, that’s right. Nobody. | One more reason a growing number of people here aren’t miserable? KETMAN — who have triple-handedly restored power to the power trio. Of course, they’ve also restored wit, invention, and brains, but no one wants to see a “brain trio.” As far as we’re concerned, they’re the best band Boston rock’s got.

Aw, c'mon. How about Sweet Baby James Taylor? His songs are so sensitive and his past struggle with heroin always brings a tear to my eyes...

Re: Massachusetts
That Bad Boys from Boston, all still live in the Boston area. While there 1st gigs were in  NH. They are a Boston/MA band. I like the Pixies much MUCH more.  There is also, The Cars, The J Giels band. Boston, The John Butcher Axis. Letters to cleo(Kay Hanley is still beautiful) Morphine, Extreme!!!!! I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

Re: Massachusetts
Yeah, I agree--no Morphine? But I did read somewhere recently that the Pixies arguably have influenced just about every band because of all the bands they influenced...

Re: Massachusetts
I might be alone on this, but my favorite band from Ma is the Lemonheads.  Evan Dando may not have been very sober for several years, but he's got an amazing voice, very catchy, alt-country-pop tunes, and an eclectic mix of song styles that still sound beautiful to this day.    I would agree that the Pixies were much more influential than the Lemonheads (Nirvana, to name just one band influenced), but it's my opinion (which, like everyone's asshole, we all have and they all stink).

Re: Massachusetts
There would never have been a Pixies without Mission of Burma.

Re: Massachusetts
Okay, now that I've watched the Ketman video, I see there would be no Ketman without Mission of Burma. But hey, at least Burma finally got a taste of the respect that's properly theirs during the first six months of their reunion, right?

Re: Massachusetts=M.O.B.
We all love Jonathan, and the Pixies, but......Mission of Burma, Mission of Burma, Mission of Burma.  No Pixie without Burmie first guys. and VS is the Ultimate Boston Rock Masterpiece of all time.
