WHY THEM? Standing in sharp contrast to DC’s post-punk musical past, Vandaveer (the performing name of Mark Charles Heidinger) specialize in southern Gothic Americana with a tinge of almost vaudevillian troubadouring. When Rose Guerin (Heidinger’s sister) pulls up a seat around the campfire to help out on harmonies, they’re simultaneously beautiful and unsettling.
