WHY THEM? The four biggest Tom Waits sea-shanty dweebs at American Apparel in Philly got together and started a band, but guess what? You will love these alleyway anthems more than any of those street-wisened tastes of yours can take. DUB lead sweaty audiences through irreverent jams live like a drunk Richard Simmons. Trash-can drums, junk-store guitars, and AM-radio operatic singing all tumble into their rickety dance pop, which leans more towards sun-bleached '60s harmonies than the hellfire funhouse sound of their old neighbors in Man Man. This is no precious nod to the past — it's just as immediate as the most obnoxious basement throwdown. Just add, like, melodies.
